Turn on the chat widget

Chat loads on the snippet you already installed. Flip the switch, set the look, decide what happens offline, and share the standalone chat link where there is no website.

Before you start

  • The analytics snippet is installed and visits appear in Realtime. If not, finish the install guide.
  • Your role is Owner or Admin — only those two can open Chat settings.
  • The domain visitors use is in the registered hostnames; chat reuses the analytics list.
You do not paste a second script. After the first pageview, the server tells w.js that chat is on and it lazy-loads w-chat.js (about 5 KB gzipped) from the same origin.

Enable it

  1. Open Live chatChat settingsAppearance. Turn on Enable live chat and save. The status at the top changes from off to on.
  2. Reload your site. A tab that was already open needs one reload. The bubble appears in the corner.
  3. Send a test message. Open the bubble, type anything. In Live chatInbox it appears under Waiting — or under Mine if auto-assignment is on and you are online. Reply once and confirm the visitor window receives it.

Appearance

Everything visual is on the same Appearance page:

SettingWhat it does
Brand name, subtitle, logoShown in the chat header. An empty brand name uses the site name. Logo square, at most 200 KB.
Primary colorBubble and send button. Pick something with contrast against your page background.
PositionBottom-right or bottom-left.
Dark modeFollow the visitor's system, always light, or always dark.
Hide bubble on mobileHides it when the window is narrower than 640 px or the browser is a phone.
GreetingsOne line when an agent is online, one when nobody is. Keep it to one sentence — a long opener reads like a pop-up people close.
TeaserAbout 4 seconds after arrival, a card pops above the bubble once. Visitors with an existing conversation do not see it.

The Free plan shows a small "Powered by TapCub" line at the bottom of the window; Pro and above can turn it off here.

Office hours and offline

Under Live chatChat settingsOffice hours, turn on Enable office hours and pick the time zone, weekdays, start and end. Inside the span the bubble shows you as online when an agent is; outside it, the visitor sees the offline greeting and a short form for email and question. Those records live under Offline messages with statuses new, replied and closed.

Leave office hours off and the bubble follows agents' real presence all day. If the AI assistant is set to answer when nobody is online, the knowledge base replies first and the form appears only when it cannot — see AI replies.

Standalone chat page

Live chatChat settingsInstall gives you a full-screen chat page at app.tapcub.com/c/{siteKey}. It needs no snippet on any website, so it works in an email signature, a QR code on packaging, or a social profile. Inside the on-site bubble, visitors can also choose Open in a new window and continue the same conversation there.

The same page has a test page that simulates a real visitor with your site key — useful for training agents without touching the live site. Add localhost to hostnames first.

Control chat per page

The console switch decides for the whole site. A data-chat attribute on the script tag overrides it on one page:

index.html

<!-- never load chat on this page (checkout, for example) -->
<script async src="https://app.tapcub.com/w.js" data-site="YOUR_SITE_KEY" data-chat="false"></script>

<!-- load the chat script immediately, without waiting for the first pageview -->
<script async src="https://app.tapcub.com/w.js" data-site="YOUR_SITE_KEY" data-chat="true"></script>

data-chat="true" still respects the console switch — if live chat is off, no bubble appears.

If there is no bubble

No bubble, w-chat.js never loadsConfirm the switch was saved and the page reloaded. Check the tag for data-chat="false". Confirm analytics itself is sending.
